Spreading The Word for Better Health

In June 2024, Lifeline conducted training sessions in preparation for drilling a new borehole, emphasizing the importance of proper sanitation and hygiene practices. The training covered essential topics such as constructing latrines, local dish dryers (Tandaro), and hand washing facilities.
For years, families in the community suffered from diseases like diarrhea, which took a heavy toll on their finances. Angom Lillian, a mother of seven, recalls spending 100,000 Ugandan shillings monthly on treatment. "With so many children, I spent a lot treating diarrhea," she says. "But since constructing a hand washing facility and a plate stand, my plates are kept dry and free from germs."
The impact of Lifeline's training has been significant, with over 50 households benefiting from the borehole constructing hand washing facilities and toilets in their homes.
Betty, another community member, acknowledges that they previously underestimated the importance of hand washing. "We didn't know that germs were making us sick," she admits.
Today, Lillian's community is grateful and has learnt great lessons, with many members constructing their own.
"We're grateful to Lifeline for teaching us the importance of keeping our utensils clean and dry," says Betty.
