A Picture is Worth 1,000 Words
Daniel WolfWriting from Northern Uganda, where I just visited Adagani village in Kwania district — a community where Lifeline recently completed installation of a new borehole, but where we have also done something different.
With the help of the local communities, who contributed bricks and labor, we constructed a protective cement wall around the borehole. That wall was then beautified by a talented local artist, whose illustrations are promoting awareness on best hygienic practices.
As community members like Jacinta see these images each and every day when collecting water for their families, they are helping to create positive behavioral change. For instance, Jacinta relayed that before seeing those images “I didn’t know we should put our pots on a raised surface", which she is now doing routinely to prevent her children reaching them and contaminating the water inside with their hands.
